Please help! Oil flow problem after rebuild

Frame Mount EVO Sportster Talk (1986-2003 models) - The Sportster and Buell Motorcycle Forum - xlforum.net
Hello all

I have recently rebuilt my 1200 evo engine from my 1989 sportster. It is fully built back up with no oil in engine. I have filled oil filter with oil and fitted. The oil tank is filled with oil and the lid popped on. I have left the engine drain plug off as I hope to see oil pouring out of this so I know oil is getting in the engine but as I crank it over with the plugs out on the starter motor, the oil doesn't seem to go down in oil tank and nothing is coming out the drain. The pipes from the oil tank are as follows: bottom pipe from oil tank goes to the back of the oil pump (closest the drive chain). The pipe from mid way up the tank on the rear goes to the front fitting on the oil pump.

I would have thought that after 1 min of cranking I would have oil coming out the drain plug on engine? There is what looks to be a breather on the top of the gearbox which I assume goes to atmosphere?

Any help as I want to get her started?!

Thanks
