I'm ready for a keyed switch (between the main circuit breaker and the rest of the electrical system) for my project bike and have one I'd like to use but its amp rating is 125VAC, 4 amps. Is there a formula that will convert and give me the amp rating at 12 VDC?
Found a converter on an internet site but when I plug in the numbers it tells me the switch will handle 43 amps. Heck, I weld with less amperage than that.
I understand that while AC has a moment of zero volts as it changes cycles, DC is continuous and so arcing is a problem but not much more about the subject. I just figure if I turn the switch and the lights glow I'm OK, if I turn on the switch and the wires glow, I got a problem.
