Carbon cleaning

Sportster Motorcycle Motor - Top End - The Sportster and Buell Motorcycle Forum - xlforum.net
While servicing the blue beast, decided to take a look inside of the cylinder with my new cell phone endoscope that my wife gave me for my 62 BD (I think she thought it would it cut our healthcare cost, DIY colonoscopy ). Anyway was surprised by the dome of carbon on the piston. Read through the forum on cleaning, as I wanted to make sure the old automotive trick of water boarding would safely work on the EFI engine (and it appears it will, from many here).

My question is: Do any of you with EFI use any injector additives/cleaners in your gas? If so do they appear to keep it cleaner? Asking because a mechanic I know (mostly automotive, but some bikes as he has ridden for a long time) swears by it. He said basically a 1/4 ounce/gallon of Lucas injector cleaner every fill up. So for me that would be an ounce /fill up (or 1/5 of the bottle). I use it in my cars regularly with good results (Mustang has 168K without any engine problems and still has a lot of pep).

Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks.
