2003 Road King slight exhaust knock
I have bout 27,000 Miles (43,000 Km) on my road king. Last year I had S&S 510 chain cams, stock tensioners and adjustable pushrods installed. The bike hauls *** for a little 88. Has a power commander 5 with auto tune as well and I'm happy with its power and torque, however this year I'm hearing a noise that wasn't there before. And it appears when the bike is cold. High up and not the annoying ticking but a tad more than that. When the bike is at full operating temp it quiets down a little. I'm wondering if perhaps the new pushrods should be re-checked. After getting home I decided to use a stethoscope and listened really hard probing all over the motor and crank case. What I am hearing through the scope is a very subtle but audible knocking in both exhaust pushrod tubes. You cant hear it when the bike is reving up but idleing with the scope. I know they all make noises that are hard to trace but everything sounds the same except this. The bike was hot and idleing. I know this is two separate observations. One with a slightly more prounounced tick and after hot and only with the scope I hear this light knock on two of the tubes.
What would be the first course of action? The engine rattle when cold or the knock when hot? Like I said you can not hear the knock unless you used a scope and its subtle. Running Harley 20-50 dino and a little bit of lucas stabilizer.
