Worth doing a Compression test yet?

Technical Help Forum - cx500forum.com
So I recently bought two cx500's a 79' and an 81', the goal is to make one functioning bike out of the two, neither is in working condition right now though. I have hand cranked the engines to make sure they aren't seized should I worry about trying to see compression if I would have to hand crank either of them right now? Would that even accurately read? should I just choose the better seeming of the two engines and then try to get good compression (if its off) down the road?

With all the help that I've seen on here I'm confident in my abilities to work on this project and might start a build thread but i need to start taking more pictures for that

Thanks
